Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)
Deep Brain Reorienting is a body-led approach to trauma that works with the nervous system's earliest automatic responses to threat. It can be a good fit for people who can describe a difficult experience calmly but still feel it physically, through chest tightness, bracing, freezing or numbness.
Rather than focusing on retelling the story in detail, the therapist follows physical sensations along the body's midline at a slow, body-led pace. Some clients notice a sense of release, a deep breath or a growing feeling of safety.
DBR may help with: physical reactions to past trauma, startle and bracing, shutdown and numbness, and trauma that feels stuck even after talk therapy or EMDR has helped.
Sessions are usually 60 to 90 minutes and are offered in person and online across Ontario. Book a free 15-minute consultation to see whether DBR is a good fit.
